No Tomorrow is a comedy-drama series (CW, 2017). Some characters work in a warehouse for a mail order company. The manager has a lot of toxic behaviours and bad breath. When employees hear her approaching, they all freeze and hold their breath. Her assistant says that he learned to scuba dive so he could work with her. This is a fictitious example of how much people will tolerate. No-one talks to her about her behaviours or personal hygiene, even diplomatically.
This also goes on in real life and at work. We excuse many such actions in ourselves and others. Isn’t it time to look at ourselves and see what we can do to deal with the negative in ourselves, cherish the positives, and build on them? If we work with someone whose behaviour is having a negative effect, don’t we have an obligation to encourage that person to change? Even if all we do is to let the person know by our actions that they will not intimidate us, and we would like the person to adapt and shift.
