We let these slip and slide, sometimes daily. Then we do something that we regret. And we wonder how we got there.
There is little around us to remind us of the importance of living by your principles and values. A recent example of Baroness Mone who admitted to lying about securing a huge contract during COVID and yet felt able publicly to say that she saw no reason for her family not to gain from the substantial profits.
In contrast, a police officer lent a man in Hubei province (China) money to go home after he lost his job. He returned later, despite the distance, to repay the police officer. That is dignity, that is decency. Perhaps what we should do is to look around to see the generosity of small and large gestures of principles and values. And let them be what we pay attention to.
