It is easy to talk about human values. It is so easy to speak about caring for humanity and others. However, for some people, that’s where it stops.
Words are easy and actions to back them up are more difficult. Too many of us don’t ensure that there is a synergy between our values and what we do. We forget how important it is to be true to our purpose.
I have seen eminent people speak of their dedication to the cause of their organisation or to ESG. And then, in the same breath, do something extremely unethical. Seeing this can give others permission to behave unethically.
So, let’s all make sure that we live our values and, when we see untoward behaviours, let’s make sure that we address them rather than just enduring them. If we do nothing, we leave that responsibility for the person who comes after us.
